LIDAR for Atmospheric Measurement and Probing
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper describes a LIDAR for atmospheric measurement and probing (LAMP). The LAMP system is a commercial LIDAR unit that uses the design of boundary layer LIDAR (BLL), an optical radar technology developed at the National Atmospheric Research Laboratory (NARL) for atmospheric applications. The LAMP technology is useful for remote monitoring of atmospheric particulate and clouds in the troposphere during nocturnal conditions. Mobile lidar system for environmental probing.
A fully mobile remote-sensing system based on the lidar principle is described. With this system, atmospheric probing using Mie scattering, differential absorption, or Raman techniques can be performed yielding information on atmospheric pollutants or general atmospheric parameters. The system incorporates a powerful Nd:YAG laser pumping a dye laser and is equipped with a fixed Newtonian telesc...
متن کاملActive Cloud Probing with Los Alamos National Laboratory’s Wide Angle Imaging Lidar: Status and Outlook
We survey recent developments in off-beam cloud lidar and especially the Wide Angle Imaging Lidar (WAIL) developed at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). By abandoning the single backscattering assumption of standard (on-beam) lidar in favor of a multiple scattering model and with the appropriate modifications of the instrument, we enable detection robust detection of the cloud boundary oppo...
متن کاملDetection of Atmospheric Composition Based on Lidar
A summary overview about the types of lidar and their own applications on atmosphere detection is presented. Measurement of atmospheric aerosols by Mie lidar and Raman lidar is focused. The vertical profiles of aerosols in the atmosphere are retrieved. And at the same time, through analyzing aerosol vertical content distribution, the atmosphere boundary layer and the cloud are also observed. Al...
متن کاملApplication of the Ultraviolet Scanning Elastic Backscatter LiDAR for the Investigation of Aerosol Variability
In order to investigate the aerosol variability over the southwest region of Slovenia, an ultraviolet scanning elastic backscatter LiDAR was utilized to make the vertical scan for atmospheric probing. With the assumption of horizontal atmospheric homogeneity, aerosol optical variables were retrieved from the horizontal pixel data points of two-dimensional range-height-indicator (RHI) diagrams b...
متن کاملTemperature lidar measurements from 1 to 105 km altitude using resonance, Rayleigh, and Rotational Raman scattering
For the first time, three different temperature lidar methods are combined to obtain time-resolved complete temperature profiles with high altitude resolution over an altitude range from the planetary boundary layer up to the lower thermosphere (about 1–105 km). The Leibniz-Institute of Atmospheric Physics (IAP) at Kühlungsborn, Germany (54 N, 12 E) operates two lidar instruments, using three d...
